The Government Trading Corp. of Iran. G.T.C. is affiliated to the ministry of commerce and is assigned to purchase wheat, sugar, rice, crude vegetable oil,
fertilizers, chicken, and baby milk powder. These items are delivered to the relevant organizations called
"The recipient organizations" for distribution. The above activities lead to a turnover of same two billion dollar per annum.
The company was established some 50 years ago under the name of foreign Transactions company
FTC and in 1977, went through some organizational/legal changes, out of which the present
G.T.C. was born.
G.T.C. is of the heeded by a board of directors whose chairman is the managing director of the company and the purchasing committee.
All decisions related to the purchase of the a/m goods and their contracts are made by a purchasing committee rising of representatives of the Ministry of commerce, Ministry of Economics and Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Administration and planning Organization, The Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran, representatives from each recipient organization and
G.T.C. The Iranian parliaments also closely monitor its activities through appointing three representatives who attend the sessions. The said committees meetings are mostly held during Mondays and Wednesdays.
In accordance with the law, the said committee is fully authorized to decide about the
relevant matters and their decisions are final and binding.
The purchases may be done by sending enquiries to the suppliers, or considering the unsolicited offers received, or dispatching to/ or hosting from the countries of origin delegations to discuss possible contracts.
However, in all of the above methods, final negotiations with the sellers in order to obtain the best price are very important.
G.T.C's executional affairs are running through the following departments:
The foreign purchasing department no.1 (Fpd-1) that handles the wheat and fertilizers, Fpd-2 that handles the sugar and crude edible oil purchases,
Fpd-3 that handles the rice, chicken and baby milk powder purchases.
All the matters related to L/C opening, handling the performance bank
guarantees and settling the outstanding accounts are attended to by the documents and banking affairs department (D-71) and those related to the transportation of the goods are managed by the operations department (D-72).
